Patient Portal — Terms of Use
This document is written in plain language on purpose — patients, not lawyers, read this.
These terms apply when you use the online patient portal your clinic has invited you to. The portal is operated by SideClick on behalf of your clinic — your relationship for your care, your records, and your privacy is with your clinic, which remains responsible for your health information. (SideClick is SideClick (Pty) Ltd, a South African company.)
1. What the portal is — and is not
The portal lets you book appointments your clinic offers, exchange secure messages and forms with your clinic, and receive documents it sends you.
The portal is not for emergencies. If you need urgent help, contact emergency services or your clinic directly by phone. Messages you send are read when your clinic next checks them — the portal is not continuous monitoring, and sending a message is not the same as reaching your clinician.
If your clinic hands you one of its own devices to fill in a form at the front desk, that device and what you enter on it belong to the clinic's own records system, not to this portal; the clinic is responsible for it.
2. Your access
Your clinic invites you with a single-use link. Setting up creates a private key that stays on your device — it is what makes your messages unreadable to everyone but you and your clinic (see the privacy notice).
Keep your device and any passkey you add secure, and don't share your sign-in links — anyone with your device and its unlock can read what your clinic sends you. If you lose the device or think someone else used it, tell your clinic: they can switch off the old access and send you a fresh invitation, and nothing is lost — your clinic keeps the originals.
3. Fair use
Use the portal only for your own care (or the care of someone you are authorised to act for). Don't use it to abuse or harass, don't try to access anyone else's information, and don't attempt to interfere with the service.
4. No charge, no tracking
The portal is provided to you at no charge, sets no advertising or analytics trackers, and shows no ads.
5. Ending access
You may stop using the portal at any time, and your clinic can deactivate portal access — neither affects your medical records or your rights over them, which stay with your clinic. Questions about your records or privacy go to your clinic first; questions about the portal service itself can go to support@sideclick.io.
6. The legal bits
SideClick provides the portal "as is" as a communication tool for your clinic and, to the extent the law allows, is not responsible for the clinical content exchanged through it — that is between you and your clinic. Nothing in these terms takes away rights the law gives you, including your rights over your health information. These terms are governed by the law of South Africa, where SideClick is based, without taking away the rights the law of your own country gives you.
