Remove, Mark as lost, Sign out everywhere

The three things you can do to a device of yours on Settings → Your devices, what each erases, and when.

Your devices belong to you, not to a practice; only you can act on them, from any device you are signed in on.

Remove signs a device out. The next time it connects, it deletes its copy of your records — entries it had not yet sent are deleted with it. You can sign in on it again later and it is set up afresh.

Mark as lost is for a device you no longer have. Always all of this, with nothing to choose: the device is blocked at once and can fetch nothing new; every device of yours is signed out; you are asked for a new password, which replaces your personal key; the file keys the lost device held are replaced in the background; and if the device ever connects again, it erases the app's data on itself. What is already on it stays sealed behind your password.

Sign out everywhere signs out every device, this one included. Nothing is erased: each device signs in again with your password and keeps what it had not yet sent.

You cannot remove or mark as lost the device you are using; do it from another of your devices. A removed or lost device stays on the list for a while afterwards, marked Removed or Lost with nothing to press, and then drops off.

After a loss, set the new password straight away: until you do, that device's old keys are the only thing standing between it and your records.
