What the sync server can see

Every entry reaches the sync server sealed, under a key only the people who may open it hold; the server keeps the sealed copy and cannot read it.

Every entry you write is sealed on your device before it leaves it, and goes to the sync server at once. That is how it reaches your other devices and the people you work with — and the server simply keeps the sealed entries instead of discarding them after delivery. There is no separate snapshot and nothing to upload by hand.

Each patient file has an identity key and a money key, and each clinical entry has a key of its own. A key is handed to a person by wrapping it under that person's own key, which comes from their password and never leaves their devices. A person receives an entry only when they hold a copy of its key; the wrapped copies live on the server, which can open none of them. Even the names of your devices are sealed under your key.

What the server holds: sealed entries, sealed photos and recordings, and the facts delivery needs — which sign-in sent an entry, when, how large it is and which sealed file it belongs to. What it never holds in a readable form: a patient's name, what an entry says, a device's name.

Settings → Your seat shows the storage used on the server; it counts the sealed entries and the media together.

The one thing the server cannot bring back is your password. If you forget it, your recovery code sets a new one; without either, nobody — including SideClick — can open your records.

  • Backups, exports and restoreThe sealed copy on the sync server rebuilds any device after sign-in; an export to a file is your own offline copy, and a restore brings a computer back from one.
  • Your recovery codeThe code shown once at sign-up is the only way back into your records if you forget your password — nobody can replace it for you.
  • Who sees whatA patient file has three layers — identity, money and clinical — and your hat in the practice decides which reach you; a grant adds patients, never layers.
  • The lapse ruleThe one deletion the sync server does by itself: a person's own copies, a set time after they stop holding a seat.
