AAC trial log and feature-matching summary

One place for every system trialled with a person — type, access method, vocabulary layout, dates, what worked, what got in the way, and an outcome rating — that prints as the summary table a funding body asks for.

The log is kept in this browser only so a trial that runs for weeks can be kept up. Start over removes it.

Summary

Feature matching, written down as you go

Device trials run for weeks and the detail that decides a funding application — which access method finally worked, which vocabulary layout the person actually navigated, what the barriers were — gets lost in session notes and emails. The log keeps it in one structured record: a trial per system, with the type, access method and vocabulary organisation chosen from the standard options, free text for configuration, settings, what worked and barriers, the dates, and a 1 to 5 outcome rating.

Start with the communication goals and the considerations driving the match — vision, hearing, motor access, positioning, language and literacy, partners and environments — so every trial is judged against the same brief.

The summary a funding body wants

The preview is the printed sheet: the person, the goals and considerations, a table of every system trialled by access method, layout, period and outcome, the narrative per trial, the highest-rated trial and your recommendation. Print it or save it as a PDF to attach to the application, or copy it as text into a report.

  • Options follow the vocabulary most funding bodies use — dedicated device, tablet app, low-tech, eye gaze; direct touch, keyguard, switch scanning, partner-assisted scanning.
  • Trial length is worked out from the dates, inclusive of the start day.

What it is not

It is not a communication app and never will be — AAC is a person's voice, and that category belongs to the dedicated systems with years of vocabulary research behind them. This is the clinician's side of the work: the trial record and the paperwork.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Can I keep more than one person's trial?

The page keeps one log at a time, on this device. Copy or print the summary before you start another. In SideClick the printed summary attaches to the person's own record as a document.

Does the rating decide the recommendation?

No. The highest-rated trial is shown for reference; the recommendation is yours, with the reasons, and prints as its own section.
