Consent is recorded per patient and per purpose, on the Consent screen and when a patient is added. Each purpose carries a legal basis, how the patient gave it — verbal, written or digital — and a history of every grant and withdrawal. Withdraw ends a purpose from that moment; what was done under it stands, as with paper.
Two things wait on consent in SideClick:
- The AI. No draft, summary or dictation is generated for a patient without consent to AI note generation. Withdrawing it stops the next one.
- Sending a copy to a clinician of another profession, and handing a patient over to another practice. Both need the patient's consent to sharing on record, given electronically or on paper and recorded with who, when and how. A withdrawal, or a discharge, refuses the next copy; what was sent was sent.
Data subject requests are the requests a patient makes about their own records: to see them, to receive a copy, to have a mistake corrected, or to have them erased. Log each one on the Data Subject Requests screen; it counts down to the legal deadline and is where the request is answered, from the records this computer holds. Access and Portability assemble an export of the patient's record; Rectification tracks a correction; Erasure zeroes the patient's data on this computer and destroys the record's keys — except signed notes still inside a keeper's retention period, which are kept and flagged as retained until that keeper's Keep or Delete.
Every grant, withdrawal and erasure goes into the audit trail, with who and when.

- Sending a copy to another professionA copy is sent once, on the patient's recorded consent: the other clinician holds the patient's details and the signed entries you chose, read-only, and nothing written afterwards reaches them.
- Handing over a patientA patient moves to a clinician at another practice with their history: the earlier entries are read-only for the receiver, who adds their own after them.
- The AI featuresDrafts, summaries, insights and dictation run on the computer itself — decision support, never a diagnosis — and only with the patient's consent.
- Keepers and retentionEvery copy of a record has one keeper, who types their own number of years; when a record passes it, the keeper chooses Keep or Delete, and the app never deletes on its own.
- PatientsEvery patient you can see, how to find one, and how a new patient is added to your practice's files.
