A handover moves a patient's record to a clinician outside your practice — a patient who moves to a clinician elsewhere with their history, or a practice closing. You hand over from the patient's Who can see this record, on your computer. Only the clinician who treats the patient, or a practice owner, can do it, and the patient's consent to sharing comes first, recorded in the app.
The receiving clinician — a practice owner or an associate at another practice — gets the record's entries. Everything written before the handover is read-only for them, marked Handed over to you; they add their own entries after it. On their Patients list the patient is labelled Handed over to you.
A handover is not for a colleague. A clinician who is a member of your practice is given a patient by a change of treating clinician instead, and the app refuses a handover to them. The receiver of a handover never passes it on.
The handover is listed on the patient's Who can see this record on both sides, with End for the clinician who gave it, the one who holds it, or a practice owner. Ending it destroys the receiver's copy on their devices down to the entries they wrote themselves, which stay with the patient's record.
Nothing moves inside your practice: it keeps its file, and your own entries stay in it.

- Sending a copy to another professionA copy is sent once, on the patient's recorded consent: the other clinician holds the patient's details and the signed entries you chose, read-only, and nothing written afterwards reaches them.
- Changing the treating clinicianInside the practice a patient passes to a colleague by naming them the treating clinician: they receive every key of the file and continue it, with the earlier entries underneath.
- Who sees whatA patient file has three layers — identity, money and clinical — and your hat in the practice decides which reach you; a grant adds patients, never layers.
- NotesEvery clinical note you can see, with its status, and where a session's note is signed, amended or co-signed.
- A file hidden on this deviceA patient file that stops reaching a device is hidden there, its keys destroyed, and shown again when a key for it arrives.
