Goal Attainment Scaling builder

Set out each goal on the −2 to +2 scale, give the important ones more weight, record the level reached at review, and read off the T-score — with the baseline T for comparison and a summary to paste into the report.

Draft goals are kept in this browser only so a refresh mid-review loses nothing. Start over removes them.

Writing the five levels

For each goal, describe what "expected" looks like at level 0 first — that is the goal as written. Then fill in somewhat less and somewhat more (−1 and +1), and the two extremes. Good levels are observable and distinct from each other; the hints under each box are there to keep them so.

Weight a goal when it matters more than the others, or is harder. A plain 1, 2 or 3 is enough; the T-score formula takes care of the rest.

Reading the T-score

A T-score of 50 means goals were met as expected on balance; above 50, better than expected; below, less. The formula is the standard one, with the usual 0.3 correlation between goals. The page also shows what the T-score would be if every rated goal sat at −1, the common baseline, so the change is visible at a glance.

  • One goal at +2 scores 70; at −2 it scores 30.
  • Unrated goals are left out of the calculation, so you can rate progressively.

Where it goes next

The copy button writes a numbered summary — each goal, its weight and the level reached — with the T-score and the count at or above expected, ready for a progress report or a note.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Which professions use GAS?

It is common in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, paediatric and neurological rehabilitation, and speech pathology — anywhere goals are individual and a standard outcome measure does not fit.

Is the T-score rounded?

To one decimal place. The raw formula is 50 + 10 Σwx ÷ √(0.7 Σw² + 0.3 (Σw)²).
